Emergency funds for the hope and peace center

Donate
Quick summary: The situation for refugees on Lesvos has become dire. We need funds to re-open the Hope and Peace Center and provide warm shelter for refugee children this winter! Details below.

Turkish plans to mass deport Syrian refugees back to Syria has led to thousands fleeing to Lesvos. Unfortunately, this has led to some terrible conditions at the Moria refugee camp, where the population has swelled to 3-4x max capacity. Children are now sleeping outside in the cold with no cover.
Salam Aldeen - founder of Team Humanity and the Hope and Peace Center, and our partner - has utilized the center as an emergency shelter in the past, helping hundreds avoid needless suffering, and potentially death, on frigid nights.
Unfortunately, officials on Lesvos forced the Hope and Peace Center to temporarily close until we pay for certain licenses. This type of shakedown has become common on the island - a strategy to make life hard on refugees and NGOs alike, with the hope that poor conditions will dissuade refugees from coming to Lesvos altogether.

We will not let these challenges get in the way of our goal to reduce the suffering of some of the most vulnerable children on earth by creating a safe place for them to play during the day, and sleep at night when necessary.

We need to quickly raise $7,500 to pay our fees and buy two industrial heaters to keep the center warm on cold nights. Winter is rapidly approaching. Thank you for your kindness and consideration.
